It was Pedro’s and Laura’s first experience of a South Indian wedding. They were the bride, Hamsini’s classmate from her UK university. Their participation was full, with carefully chosen North Indian and South Indian attire for each session! During the engagement ceremony the evening before the muhurtham day, a member of the Athithi crew went up to them and offered any assistance that they may require to feel at home. Pedro quickly asked him, “Can you get us ‘gulab jamun’.It’s my favourite Indian sweet. Within 20 minutes a plate full of delicious gulab jamun was offered to them courteously. (To note: Gulab jamun was not in the menu that evening!!)
“This is the most aesthetic wedding I have witnessed in years now.” “There was so much crowd, yet I felt so much taken care of. Such hospitality is rare these days” “We have seen grand weddings, but this is such a beautiful wedding”. These are a few among the many calls, emails and messages that are pouring in until today, after a month of Hamsini’s wedding.
Ravi and me are CEOs of our respective companies. February is peak time for our businesses and it was not without nervousness that we began the search for an event planner for our daughter’s wedding. When we met Mr. Mohan and Ms. Meera we knew our search ended and rightfully so! Complete understanding of our needs (expressed and not expressed!) and the ease with which we could use technology to correspond with them. Emails, whatsapp, all made the whole experience so convenient.
I think the basic things like food through the 8 sessions on the two days, hospitality was so well done that we took them for granted! :) Novel ideas like chendai-melam for welcoming the groom’s family on Day 1, poo pandal to take the couple from the oonjal to the manamedai, professional singer for oonjal etc gave the celebrations a big face-lift.
Hema, Kannan and many many of the Athithi crew became our family members. There was a constant feeling of having help around which gave us the most important factor that makes a ‘high-stake’ daughter’s wedding with over 2000 invitees a very joyful and stress-free one...’peace of mind’! Thank you Athithi- you rock!
